Senior Laboratory Manager – Environmental Testing Services (PFAS Focus)

We are a growing biotechnology company based in beautiful Fort Collins, Colorado. Our company was originally a Stanford University spin-out, and our products are underpinned by several patents. GT Molecular has grown considerably over time and our services and highly multiplexed assays have impacted fields such as cancer, infectious disease, and wastewater-based epidemiology.

We are passionate about positive impact in science and community health, committed to delivering tech that achieves practical solutions, and emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration with scientists, engineers, and professionals. As we expand our environmental testing capabilities — with a strong focus on PFAS (forever chemicals) alongside metals, analytical testing, and microbial assays — we are seeking an experienced Senior Laboratory Manager to lead this growing service line.

This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. You’ll build and scale high-quality testing workflows while collaborating closely with our sales, marketing, and R&D teams to drive customer adoption and revenue growth.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Hands-on leadership of environmental testing workflows, with primary focus on PFAS analysis using EPA-approved methods (e.g., EPA 533, 537.1, 1633).
  • Directly supervise and execute testing for metals (ICP-MS/OES), general analytical chemistry, and some microbial assays.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, QA/QC programs, chain-of-custody protocols, and LIMS integration for sample intake, analysis, and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accreditations (e.g., NELAC/TNI, ISO 17025) and drive certification processes as needed.
  • Manage lab staff, including hiring, training, and mentoring a small team of technicians.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing to support customer acquisition, method selection, and custom project design.
  • Contribute to business development by leveraging industry connections and staying current on emerging contaminants and regulatory trends.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Analytical Chemistry, or related field (PhD a plus). 7+ years of laboratory experience in environmental testing, with at least 3+ years in a supervisory/management role.
  • Hands-on expertise with PFAS testing (EPA methods, LC-MS/MS or GC-MS), metals analysis (ICP-MS/OES), and general analytical techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of QA/QC, method validation, and regulatory compliance in environmental labs.
  • Experience with microbial testing (qPCR/dPCR preferred) and wastewater matrices a strong plus.
  • Proven ability to build scalable lab operations, implement LIMS, and mentor teams.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with emerging contaminants (e.g., 1,4-dioxane, pharmaceuticals); NELAC/TNI or ISO 17025 accreditation experience; exposure to cannabis/THC or other regulated testing. Established industry network in environmental testing or public health.
  • Soft Skills: You are a true “doer” who thrives in a hands-on environment, loves rolling up your sleeves, and can directly contribute to running assays. Passionate about innovation in science and community health; collaborative team player with strong communication for interdisciplinary work; committed to mentoring and achieving practical solutions.

We would like to see:

  • Experience testing for metals (e.g., ICP-MS), general analytical chemistry, and microbial assays (PCR for pathogens, microbial source tracking).

Benefits

  • Competitive salary ($100,000–$140,000+, depending on experience)
  • Bonus and stock options
  • Comprehensive health benefits and 401(k)
  • Opportunity to grow with a fast-paced, impactful biotech company in a beautiful location
