Wastewater Respiratory NGS panel – Flu A, Flu B, RSV and SARS‑CoV‑2 in one wastewater sequencing run
Two ways to work with us
Run the kit on your Illumina, or send us the sample. Same panel, same chemistry. Choose the kit if you have a sequencer and want the data in-house. Choose the service if you'd rather skip the lab work.
GT-Fast Prep Respiratory Panel Library Kit for Illumina®
- 96 samples per kit, all library prep reagents included
- Extract to sequencing-ready library in about 8 hours
- Data analysis made easy from FASTQ to result using the NGS portal that is included with the kit
National wastewater sequencing service
- Collection kit and overnight return shipping included
- We extract, sequence and analyze in our U.S. lab
- Report within 10 business days of sample receipt
The targets that tell you which strains are circulating
The panel sequences the regions that carry subtype and variant information for each virus, and skips the rest. Maximize actionable data while keeping the cost per sample down.
- Spike Protein (S) is where mutations impacting immunity and transmission occur.
- Neurocapsid (N) is the conserved region used for lateral flow assays.
- Hemagglutinin (H) and Neuraminidase (N) are key surface proteins that determine the specific flu strain (ex H3N2).
- These regions allows public health labs track specific strain in circulation and ID vaccine-evading mutations.
- Fusion (F) region is the target for vaccines and therapies.
- Glycoprotein (G) is used to distinguish RSV A from RSV B. Variants in the region are used for strain identification and tracking.
Wastewater is a hard sample. This panel was designed for it.
Viral RNA in influent is scarce, fragmented and surrounded by inhibitors and background nucleic acid. Kits designed for human swabs or spit lack the sensitivity necessary for wastewater sequencing. Every step of this workflow was developed and validated on wastewater extracts.
Pre-treatment clears the background
An enzymatic pre-treatment step removes unwanted genetic material before amplification, so fewer reads are spent on sequence you don’t need.
Primers designed for fragmented RNA
Viral RNA in wastewater arrives broken into short pieces. Panels designed for swabs often rely on fewer, longer amplicons that those short fragments can’t span, so coverage drops out. Our primer sets use short amplicons that still read the target genes from fragmented RNA, designed from 50 years of human seasonal strain data.
Validated with the extraction you already use
Tested with two common wastewater workflows.
- Promega Maxwell® RSC Enviro TNA workflow
- CERES Nanotrap® Microbiome A with Thermo Fisher MagMAX™ Wastewater Ultra
Key Benefits
What sets us apart? Unlike standard testing, our end-to-end workflow is optimized specifically for the complex matrix of wastewater.
All-in-one sample collection kit and multiplexed, automation-ready kit with minimal hands on-time and rapid results
Designed for inputs from 5 pathogen copies per µL of extract, measured by dPCR. Lower-concentration samples can still be run with deeper sequencing.
Monitor antigenic drift and identify markers associated with vaccine resistance subtypes
Minimal hands-on time, easy-to-interpret bioinformatics reports included with the testing service & as an add-on service with the NGS library prep kit.
What this panel is, and what it isn't
It is
- Targeted amplicon sequencing of Flu A, Flu B, RSV A/B and SARS-CoV-2
- Validated on wastewater extracts
- A complete workflow from RNA extract to sequencing-ready library
- Compatible with standard subtyping and lineage tools
It isn't
- Whole-genome sequencing
- Quantitative. Use a GT-Digital™ Flu;SC2;RSV panel to quantify.
- Designed for avian influenza H5 or the B/Yamagata lineage. Ask us about H5.
- Validated for sample types other than wastewater
